Leaders and Damaged Relationships

Leaders do things. Very often that “doing” entails change. This drive to do something mixed with ambition and wrapped in personality appeals to some while repulsing others. Leadership, however, isn't fully in our drive, ambition, or personality but in the influence we exert upon those who like and dislike us as its result.

It doesn't mean we are to be captive to the opinion of others rather we are to capture their opinion.

My point of view is that our actions emerge from and fit into larger patterns within the human family and even nature itself. One of these is the idea of restoration. We see it most easily every spring as nature restores itself. But what about restoration in relationships; do leaders have an obligation to restore relationships?

I believe we do but think restoration shouldn't always be the first goal. Instead capture an antagonists opinion by working toward reconciliation. The difference can be having someone aimed at your defeat or a neutral observer.

I coach and mentor leaders for professional and personal improvement. If having a free 15 minute introduction call could be helpful you can schedule that here.
